1. The abbreviation CDMA means "Code Division Multiple Access". To understand this code division, imagine that you are in large room with many people speaking simultaneously in different languages. You will perceive only your own language and these "background talks" won`t bother you. In this case we might call the language as a code that is used by CDMA system for organization of some peculiar connection.
2. The CDMA technology is rather old. The first work on this topic was published in USSR in 1935 by Dmitrii Ageev. After the WWII it was used in military sphere in the USA & USSR. And only in 80s Americans declassified this technology and started using it in sphere of communication.
3. At the beginning of 90s CDMA or CDMAone appeared to improve cellular communication network capabilities. Today CDMA standard is spread widely in North/ South America, Korea, Japan and China.
4. The 1st commercial CDMA network was started in 1995 in Hong Kong.
5. The first companies that started using this standard were MOTOROLA, LUCENT TECHNOLOGIES, NORTEL, LG, SAMSUNG, SONY, NEC, ERICSSON.
